Jesus Christ (Peace be upon Him) gave life to the dead whereas Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) has not done any such miracle. Who is greater?A person who can give life to dead or a person who cannot give life to the dead?
RESPONSEAll power was given by Allah to Eesa (Peace be upon Him) to perform these miracles. The Muslims do accept that Prophet Jesus (Peace be upon Him) was one of the mightiest messengers of God performed many miracles. We believe that he healed those born blind and the lepers and raised the dead, but with God's permission. Allah says in Sura Mai'dah- 5:110: " [The Day] when Allah will say, "O Jesus, Son of Mary, remember My favor upon you and upon your mother when I supported you with the Pure Spirit and you spoke to the people in the cradle and in maturity; and [remember] when I taught you writing and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel; and when you designed from clay [what was] like the form of a bird with My permission, then you breathed into it, and it became a bird with My permission; and you healed the blind and the leper with My permission; and when you brought forth the dead with My permission; "
Bible mentions that Jesus (Peace be upon Him) was given the power by god to perform miraclesJesus Christ (Peace be upon Him) clearly denies in the Bible that he performed miracles on his own. Instead, there are statements attributed to Jesus Christ (Peace be upon Him) in the Bible in which he says quite the contrary. He emphasized that God Almighty gave this ability to him, as mentioned in
Gospel of John Chapter 14 Verse 28: My Father is greater than I
Gospel of John Chapter 10 Verse 29: My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all
Gospel of Matthew - 12:28: I cast out Devils by the spirit of God
Gospel of Luke - 11:20: I with the fingers of God cast out Devils
Gospel of John - 5:30: I can of mine own self do nothing, as I hear I judge and my judgment is just because I seek not my own will but the will of the Father who sent me.
Gospel of John 10:25-39: It is made very clear in the Bible by Jesus himself that he is a man, sent by God, and everything he says he hears, everything he teaches such as the doctrine is not his, and everything he does such as miracles is from God. also demonstrate that fact when Jesus himself says Many good works have I showed you from my Father.
Gospel of John 17:1-3: These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
All these verses of the Bible make it clear that whatever miracle Jesus (Peace be upon Him) performed was only by the will of Almighty God and by himself he could do nothing whether it is giving life to the dead or healing the lepers or the blind or any other miracle.
A similar message about Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) is mentioned in the Qur'an in Surah Najm- 53:3,4:
Qur'an in Surah Najm- 53:3 - "Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire." Qur'an in Surah Najm- 53:4 -"It is not but a revelation revealed."
ALL Hebrew Prophets performed similar miraclesThere is hardly any miracle that Jesus Christ (Peace be upon Him) performed but was not done earlier by the Hebrew Prophets.
Elisha raised the dead - 2 Kings 4:36
Elijah raises the dead - 1 Kings 17:23
Elisha cures a leper - 2 Kings 5:14
Joseph cures the blind - Genesis 46:4
There are many more miracles of such nature. Does that make them greater than Jesus (Peace be upon Him) because they performed these miracles long before Jesus (Peace be upon Him) was even born?
Miracles are not the standard for judging greatnessThe word Miracle according to the dictionary means - An abnormal event or an event unexplainable by human brain that is attributed to Supernatural power of God.
All the miracles that Messengers of God prior to Muhammad (Peace be upon Him), were time bound and place bound, i.e. those miracles occurred and nobody could ever repeat or practically prove the miracle once it occurred and apart from this no miracle ever stood the different tests of time.
According to the Bible, Jesus (Peace be upon Him) says in Gospel of Matthew Chapter 24 Verse 24:For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; in so much that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect
According to Jesus (Peace be upon Him), John the Baptist is the greatestJesus (Peace be upon Him) says in the Gospel of Matthew Chapter 11 Verse 11 that John the Baptist, who did not perform a single recorded miracle, is the greatest.
Verily I say unto you, among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) performed more than 3000 miracles
There are more than 3000 authenticated miracles attributed to Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him). These are so many and so diverse in nature that they have been recorded in various authentic books.
Greatest living miracle is the Qur'anBut the Greatest miracle that Allah gave to Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) is the Glorious Qur'an- The Ultimate Miracle of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) by God Almighty Allah.
The Qur'an proved to be a miracle 1400 years ago by Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) with its inimitable style and prose and at the height of eloquence. For the past 1400 years, the Qur'an has again proven itself to be a miracle, withstanding the test of time and keeping pace with scientific breakthroughs and will continue to do so till the Day of Judgement. In short, The Glorious Qur'an is a Universal Miracle.
However, the Muslims have not made this as a point of difference in order of respecting Jesus (Peace be upon Him) and Muhammad (Peace be upon Him).
Prophet Jesus (Peace be upon Him) according to The Bible as mentioned in Gospel of John 16:12 says, " I have yet many things to say unto you But ye cannot bear them now. When the spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth".
According to this verse Jesus (Peace be upon Him) has left his teachings incomplete whereas Qur'an says about the teachings of Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) mentioned in Qur’an Surah Ma'idah- 5:3: "This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, And have chosen for you Islam as your religion."
Therefore it should always be maintained in understanding that one particular miracle of any nature is not enough to decide the Greatness of any person or any Messenger in comparison to the other.
