TALHA IBN 'UBAIDULLAH (MAY ALLAH BE PLEASED WITH HIM)
Talha ibn 'Ubaid-Allah ibn 'Uthmaan (R) was also amongst those who were given the glad tidings of Paradise during their lifetimes and he was among of the first people to embrace Islam. In fact Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq (May Allah be pleased with him) invited him to Islam. Talha was also known as Talha -tu-Al-Khair and Talha-tu-Al-Fayaad.
He fought with bravery alongside the Messenger of Allah(May Allah Honour him and Grant him Peace) in the Battle of Uhud and he shielded the Prophet peace be upon him from arrows with his own body so much so that his arm was severely wounded and crippled. And he carried the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him on his back until they climbed a large boulder. Talha also fought in all of the battles that followed and he swore his allegiance to the Prophet at Bay'a-tu-Ar-Ridwaan.
In a hadith narrated upon the authority of Musa ibn Talha who said that his father (Talha ibn 'Ubaid-Allah ibn 'Uthmaan) said: "The Messenger of Allah named me Talhatu-Al-Khair (Talha-the-Good) on the day of the Battle of Uhud. (And he named me) Talhatu-Al-Fayaad (Talha-the-Generous) on the day of the Battle of Al-'Usrah and (he named me) Talhatu-Al-Juwd (Talha-the-Generous) on the day of the Battle of Hunayn."
And in another hadith narrated upon the authority of 'Uqba ibn 'Alqama who said: "I heard 'Ali ibn Abee Taalib say: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him say with my own ears: 'Talha and Az-Zubair will be next to me in Paradise.'"
In another hadith narrated upon the authority of Qais ibn Haazim who said: "I saw the hand of Talha which he used to shield the Prophet peace be upon him (against arrows in the Battle of Uhud) and it was crippled."
And in another hadith narrated upon the authority of Jaabir ibn Abd-Allah (May Allah be pleased with him) who said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him say: 'Whoever wants to look at a martyr walking on the face of the earth then let him look at Talha ibn 'Ubaid-Allah."
