His People

Sulaiman (Peace be upon Him) kingdom was divided when he died. The current king of Israel was Ahab, had reverted to materialism. The entire kingdom had fallen to a wave of evil and corruption. People who tried to teach the oneness of Allah  we're tortured and killed.

Ilyas (Peace be upon Him) had been trying effortlessly to teach the people. He told them of the Punishment that would overtake the kingdom. He added that their false gods would be powerless to stop it. The people paid no heed to his warnings never changing their ways.

Ahab had his neighbor killed, even though he was a pious man and had never done any harm. Ahab took the land of his slain neighbor, as his own. It was a lush garden of fruit. Ilyas (Peace be upon Him) scolded the king for his behavior and warned him that a punishment from Allah would come if he did not return the land back to the slain man's orphan. Surly Allah will have Ahab slain in the same garden. Ahab told Ilyas (Peace be upon Him) that he should hold his tongue, least he have him arrested and tortured, for making threats against the king.

The prophecy of the Prophet Ilyas (Peace be upon Him) came about. It began with the son of the Ahab becoming ill. Ilyas (Peace be upon Him) frustrated by the behavior of the king asked the king "why did he not pray to his best idol for the recovery of his son." Ahab was so insulted by the Ilyas (Peace be upon Him) words that he sent for his guards to take him, torture, and kill him.

Allah’s (Glory be to Him) Punishment for his Ummah

Ilyas (Peace be upon Him) fell into prostration praying to Allah  for His help. As the palace guards entered his chamber they fell dead. The prophecy of the Prophet Ilyas (Peace be upon Him) continued the whole kingdom came under a drought. Famine swept the people of Ahab's kingdom. Continuing for three years. Ilyas (Peace be upon Him) pleaded to Allah  "show mercy to the famine stricken people". The people had felt the strength and authority of Allah . The people asked to be forgiven.

Allah sent rain down to the land ending the draught. Ilyas (Peace be upon Him) was directed by Allah (Glory be to Him) to inform Al-Yasa (Peace be upon Him) that he was to be his successor. IIyas (peace be upon Him) vanished in the protection of Allah (Glory be to Him). It was shortly after that a monarch from a neighboring kingdom came and conquered the land. Ahab and his wife we're slain in the garden that they had stolen years before.

Description in Qur’an

“And We gave to him Ishaq and Yaqoub; each did We guide, and Nuh did We guide before, and of his descendants, Dawood and Sulaiman and Ayub and Yusuf and Musa and Haroun; and thus do We reward those who do good (to others). And Zakariya and Yahya and Isa and Ilyas; everyone was of the good;” Qur’an.Surah Anaam 6:84-85

“And Ilyas was most surely of the apostles. When he said to his people: Do you not guard (against evil)? What! do you"  call upon Ba'l and forsake the best of the creators, Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore? But they called him a liar, therefore they shall most surely be brought up. But not the servants of Allah, the purified ones. And We perpetuated to him (praise) among the later generations. Peace be on Ilyas. Even thus do We reward the doers of good. Surely he was one of Our believing servants” Qur’an.Surah Saaffat 37:123-132.
