KEYS OF PROVISION (RIZQ)


A human spends major part of his life in earning or learning skills which is beneficial for his livelihood. Amongst the greatest difficulties, currently people are worried, is the anxiety regarding ones survival and livelihood. The Keys of Rizq shall, by the Will of Allah سبحانه و تعالى (the Most Blessed, the Most High), serve as a guide for solutions to remedy this concern.

 

The root word for RIZQ is R-Z-Q points to the idea of the receiving of anything beneficial, particularly a gift, whereby something is nourished, sustained, or helped to grow physically, mentally or spiritually.

Qur’an  

Allah (Glory be to Him) is ar-Razzaaq (the Provider) and the best of those who give provision, as said in Qur’an, “And there is no creature on earth but that upon Allah is its provision, and He knows its place of dwelling and place of storage. All is in a clear register.” Qur’an Surah Hud 11:6

 

Keys of Rizq

The Shariah (Quran and Sunnah) prescribe many different ways through which a person can increase his/her Rizq. Some of these ways are:

 

1. Seek Forgiveness and Repent for Sins

Seek forgiveness and repent for your sins by (1) feeling regret about a sinful act, (2) leave the sinful act and (3) vow never to commit the sinful act again.

 

Allah سبحانه و تعالى the Most Blessed, the Most High says about Prophet Noah (peace be upon him):

فَقُلْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّاراً . يُرْسِلْ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِدْرَاراً .وَيُمْدِدْكُمْ بِأَمْوَالٍ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ جَنَّاتٍ وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ أَنْهَاراً.(نوح:10-12)

Translation: And said; Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers. And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers.(Qur’an.SurahNuh: 10-12)

 

About Prophet Hood (peace be upon him) Allah سبحانه و تعالى the Most Blessed, the Most High says:

وَيَا قَوْمِ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوا إِلَيْهِ يُرْسِلْ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِدْرَاراً وَيَزِدْكُمْ قُوَّةً إِلَى قُوَّتِكُمْ وَلا تَتَوَلَّوْا مُجْرِمِينَ  (هود:52)

Translation: And O my people!Ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in showers and increase you in strength [added] to your strength. And do not turn away, [being] criminals.(Qur’an.SurahHood: 52)

 

2. Seek Rizq in the Early Morning

The early morning is a blessed time, Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) prayed,

((اللهم بارك لأُمتي في بكورها)). (صحيح ابن ماجة : 1832)

Translation: “Oh Allah, give blessings to my Ummah in their early-morning work.” (Sahih Ibn Majah: 1832)

 

3. Taqwa (Consciousness of Allah the Most Blessed, the Most High)

Be conscious of Allah the Most Blessed, the Most Highand adopt piety all the time, no matter what the circumstances.

 

Allah the Most Blessed, the Most High says:

وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مَخْرَجاً . وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لا يَحْتَسِبُ(الطلاق:3-2)

Translation:And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect. (Qur’an.Surah Talaaq: 2-3)

 

Allah the Most Blessed, the Most High also says:

وَلَوْ أَنَّ أَهْلَ الْقُرَى آمَنُوا وَاتَّقَوْا لَفَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ بَرَكَاتٍ مِنْ السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ وَلَكِنْ كَذَّبُوا فَأَخَذْنَاهُمْ بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ. (الأعراف:96)

Translation: And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah, We would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they denied [the messengers], so We seized them for what they were earning.(Qur’an.Surah Araaf: 96)

 

4. Avoid Sin

Allah the Most Blessed, the Most High says:

ظَهَرَ الْفَسَادُ فِي الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِي النَّاسِ لِيُذِيقَهُمْ بَعْضَ الَّذِي عَمِلُوا لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ.(الروم:41)

Translation:Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned so He may let them taste part of [the consequence of] what they have done that perhaps they will return [to righteousness].(Qur’an.Surah Room: 41)

 

5. Sincere Trust Upon Allah the Most Blessed, the Most High

This means to have complete conviction that everything in the universe from creation, sustenance, benefit, harm, illness, death and life occur only with the command of Allah سبحانه و تعالى the Most Blessed, the Most High.

 

Allah the Most Blessed, the Most High says:

وَمَنْ يَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسْبُهُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ بَالِغُ أَمْرِهِ قَدْ جَعَلَ اللَّهُ لِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدْرا.(الطلاق:3)

Translation:And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect. (Qur’an.Surah Talaaq: 2-3)

 

Umar bin Khattab (Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

عن عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: ((لو أنكم توكلتم على الله حق توكله لرزقكم كما يرزق الطير تغدو خماصاً وتروح بطاناً)). (صحيح ابن ماجه:3377)

Tranlsation:“If you have proper and sincere Tawakkul (reliance) on Allah the Most Blessed, the Most High. He will grant you Rizq like the birds are given Rizq, who come out of their nests in the morning with empty stomachs and return to their nests in the evening with a full stomach.” (Sahih Ibn Majah:3377)

 

6. Free Yourself for the Worship of Allah the Most Blessed, the Most High

Worship Allah the Most Blessed, the Most High with complete concentration and humility and give preference to worshipping Allah the Most Blessed, the Most High above everything else.

 

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

رسول اللہ ﷺکافرمانہے:((يقول ربكم تبارك وتعالى: يا ابن ادم تفرغ لعبادتي أملأ قلبك غنى، وأملأ يديك رزقاً، يا ابن ادم لا تَبَاعدْ مني فأملأ قلبك فقراً وأملأ يديك شغلاً)). (صحيح ابن ماجة : 3331)

Translation: “Verily Allah the Most Blessed, the Most High says: O son of Adam, free yourself for my worship, I will (inturn) fill your chest with satisfaction and remove your poverty, and if you don't I will fill your hands with distraction and will not remove your poverty.”(Sahih Ibn Majah: 33

 

7. Perform Hajj and Umrah Alternately

TheMessenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

رسول اللہ ﷺکافرمانہے:((تابعوا بين الحج والعمرة فإنهما ينفيان الفقر والذنوب كما ينفي الكير خبث الحديد والذهب والفضة، وليس للحجة المبرورة ثواب إلا الجنة)). (صحيح ابن ماجة : 2352)

Tranlsation:“Perform Hajj and Umrah one after the other. These two eliminate poverty and sins as bellows eliminate the rust of the iron, gold and silver. The reward of an accepted Hajj is but Paradise." (Sahih Ibn Majah: 2352)

 

8. Spend for the Pleasure of Allah the Most Blessed, the Most High

Give in charity with the attention to please Allah the Most Blessed, the Most High. People love wealth and when they spend their wealth for the sake of Allah the Most Blessed, the Most High, in return He bestows upon them greater wealth.

 

Allah the Most Blessed, the Most High says:

(وَمَا أَنفَقْتُمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ فَهُوَ يُخْلِفُهُ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ الرَّازِقِينَ) (سبأ:39)

Translation: But whatever thing you spend [in His cause] – He will compensate it; and He is the best of providers.( Qur’an.Surah Saba’:39)

 

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

رسول اللہ ﷺکاارشادہے:  ((قال الله تبارك وتعالى: يا ابن ادم أَنفق أُنفق عليك)). (مسلم:993)

Translation: “Allah, the Most Blessed and High, said: O sonofAdam, spend (in charity). I will spend on you.” (Sahih Muslim: 993)

 

9. Spend on a Student of the Deen:

Anas ibn Malik (Allah be pleased with him) narrated:

عن أنس بن مالك رضي الله عنه قال: كان أخوان على عهد رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فكان أحدهما يأتي النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم والآخر يحترف، فشكا المحترف أخاه إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فقال: ((لعلك تُرزقُ به)). (صحيح الترمذي :2345)

Translation: During the days of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) there were two brothers, one of whom used to serve the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and the other used to look after his business. One day the latter complained to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) that his other brother did nothing (to earn a living). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied: ‘It is just possible that you are being helped to earn your living on account of him.’ (Tirmidhi: 2345)

 

10. Keep up family ties and do good to relatives

Do utmost good towards your blood relatives as well as those related to you by marriage (in-laws etc.). Treat your relatives with compassion and look after them.

 

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

 ((من سره أن يبسط له في رزقه أو ينسأ له في أثره فليصل رحمه)).(بخاري:2067، مسلم : 2557)

Translation:He who likes that his sustenance should be expanded and his life to be extended should uphold the ties of kinship.  (Bukhari: 2067, Muslim: 2557)

 

11. Assist the Weak and Elderly

Mus'ab bin Sad (Allah be please with him) narrated:

عن مصعب بن سعد قال: رأى سعد رضي الله عنه أن له فضلاً عمن دونه، فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: ((هل تُنصرون وتُرزقون إلا بضعفائكم؟)). ( البخاري:2896)

Translation: “Once Sad (bin Abi Waqqas) thought that he was superior to those who were below him in rank. On that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "You gain no victory or livelihood except through (the blessings and invocations of) the poor amongst you.” (Sahih Al Bukhari: 2896)
