DAY OF NAHR OR YAUM UN NAHR


It is the day of ‘Eed Al-Adha, the 10th day of Zul-Hijjah. It was called as such because livestock animals are slaughtered on this day as an act of worship to Allaah alone.

Introduction

The three days following the day of An-Nahr (the first day of ‘Eed Al-Adh-ha) are called the days of Tashreeq. Days of Tashreeq are also called Al-Ayaam Al-Ma‘doodaat (the numbered days).

 

Quran

Allaah The Almighty Says: {And remember Allaah during [specific] numbered days.} Quran Surah Baqrah 2:203They are also called Ayyaam Mina (the days of Mina), because pilgrims spend these days in Mina. [1]

 

Greatest day of Hajj

Narrated 'Ali(R):"I asked the Messenger of Allah () about the day of Al-Hajj Al-Akbar, and he said: "The day of An-Nahr." Jami at Tirmidhi, Book 44, Hadith 3088

 

Ibn ‘Umar (R) that the Messenger of Allaah () stood up on the day of Sacrifice during the Hajj that he performed and said: “What day is this?” They said, “the Day of Sacrifice.” He said, “This is the greatest day of Hajj.” Sunan Abi Dawood, 1945; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 1700
